ABSTRACT

This chapter describes an analytical basis to guide empirical research on the property market as an institution and its relation to the urban economy. It talks about the theoretical framework to address explicitly the issues of concrete analysis. The chapter discusses the epistemological and methodological premises of the project to provide a generic research approach indicating the appropriate methods and techniques for empirical analysis. It explores how the specific theoretical framework can be operationalised and translated into empirical practice. The chapter explains the research design that provides a blueprint for empirical studies. It examines the robustness of the urban economy, taking into account the external conditions, internal dynamics and property market products that affect its economic performance. The chapter focuses on the property market process which is responsible for the actual property outcomes provided, to enrich knowledge of the institutional character of the property market.
