ABSTRACT

N atalia Ievgenievna Gorbanevskaia is a writer, poet, translator, and civil rights activist. After her graduation from the university, she worked as an editor and translator. She was arrested and imprisoned as one of the eight protesters on the Moscow Red Square to oppose the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. In 1975, she emigrated to France and now lives in Paris. Her literary translations are primarily from Polish. Her poem is dedicated to the Polish writer and translator Czeslaw Milosz, the 1980 Nobel Prize Laureate for Literature.
