ABSTRACT
This chapter presents a very brief outline of Panjabi grammar and introduces most of the important technical terms used in the book. Like any other intellectual discipline, grammar has its own technical terminology. Utmost care has been taken here to follow what is known as the Principle of Parsimony or Occam’s Razor – the principle that we should not use more entities (and categories) than the minimum needed. Many of the unnecessary categories used in the older Panjabi grammars have been shaved off. A grammar book without its own technical terminology is like a chemistry book without chemical formulas or a physics book without equations. But all the technical terms introduced in this chapter are fully explained with lots of examples in the following chapters. Some of the technical information given below may be new for many users of this book. So it is repeated in some places.
