ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the issue of Praising organization within the context of Egypt's ongoing revolutionary process. It argues that, in the phase following the downfall of Mubarak, revolutionary forces suffered due to their particular organizational forms. However, it is clear that while the form and nature of an organization is an important factor in creating sustainable platforms for launching transformative projects, it is not sufficient for the success of such a project. The myriad informal political groups, activist forums, political coalitions and protest activities which formed the core of the pro-democracy movement analysed by many commentators within a framework of New Social Movements (NSMs) under authoritarian regimes. The Revolution Youth Coalition (RYC), which was one of the earliest to be formed, comprised representatives of different political leanings, including groups such as the youth wings of the MB and liberal parties, leftist groups and cross-ideological groups and networks such as the Youth for Justice and Freedom Movement.
