ABSTRACT

In terms of broad methods that can be used to support the performance, the chapter covered the following concepts: a non-judgemental approach to teacher observation; a nine-step performance coaching model; a six-step model for supporting practitioner development; a six-step model for supporting practitioner wellbeing; a framework for supporting practical problem solving (PRACTICE); and a solution-focused framework for supporting individual and team development (ENABLE). The chapter examines how coaching practice can be supplemented by the application of the psychological approaches. The I-GROW model provides an easy-to-remember framework that can support the integration of many other techniques or approaches. The incorporation of psychological methods and principles into a classic coaching framework provides us with a dual systems approach, meaning that we are able to attend to both the practical and psychological aspects of a coachee's life or situation as is appropriate.
