ABSTRACT
Menyelek II having signed the Treaty of Uccialli and so placed himself in the power of the Italians, according to their interpreta tion of the treaty, decided that the time had come for him to be crowned king. He was at Entoto in Shoa with the large army which he had gathered together to fight the Mahdl, when the news of John’s death reached him. He hastened to Makale and was there crowned with great ceremony on the 3rd of November 1889 by the Abuna Matthew, and he made Entoto his capital.
