ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the meaning and importance of independent study. It identifies the modes of assessment and England and Wales follow the traditional three-feedback that are typical in an economics programme. Learning to take good notes on lectures is a key skill that will need to develop as soon as possible. Most economics degree programmes in year pattern leading to a Bachelor's degree. An international collaboration of 25 economists, led by Professor Wendy Carlin at University College London, set up the Curriculum Open-access Resources in Economics (CORE) project to produce new teaching resources that would create a broader economics curriculum. The National Student Survey (NSS) results show that students across the country are concerned about assessment and feedback. University is an opportunity to make new friends, to mix with people from other countries and cultures and to develop one's social or sporting skills.
