ABSTRACT

This chapter provides guidance on how to decide between alternative economics programmes and highlights key sources of information that help us to focus on programmes that match our preferences. It is time to visit the Unistats site to consult the Key Information Set (KIS), to find a standardised set of information. Information is provided about the time spent on lectures, seminars and independent study, as well as the balance of assessment between coursework and written examinations. Finally, there is data from the National Student Survey about how students rate their Students Union. An article in the Royal Economic Society's newsletter noted that the increase was not even across the higher education sector, with a notable difference between the new universities and the older institutions. One important thing to remember as make the transition from school or college to university is that higher education is simply different.
