ABSTRACT

After staying in the city of Malta for a month to find out the conditions of the country and everything about it, what was secret and what was not, people started talking. The most comprehensive study of Muslim captives in Malta and Gozo remains the work of Godfrey Wettinger. This time, when they started thinking that way, they kept the captives in prison and ordered armed soldiers to watch over them, as they did over the house too. The extraordinary things we saw in Cadiz was a church that had been under construction for sixty years. They were still working on it and had not reached the ceiling because of its size. It had amazing decorations and vast and elevated enclaves, all of select stone brought from Malaga and Catalonia and elsewhere. They showed one of the columns, which was sixteen cubits long and of red marble hewn from a single block that had been brought from Catalonia.
