ABSTRACT

With the formulation of a clear conception of institutionalization, Parsons provides the underpinning to a fully social image of man. This action programme has as its core case a view of an ego-alter interaction that sees what both individuals do strictly as social process. The traditional liberal and utilitarian concept of an individual separate from social process is eliminated. Parsons' objections to utilitarianism in SSA become more thoroughly rooted as he develops an alternative foundation for his action theory which eliminates any conception of an individual separate from social process.
