ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a Virtual space through which basic human needs can be gratified, alongside with the satisfaction of basic human needs which has been traditionally attained through real space. Complementarity is the simplest possible relationship between physical and virtual spaces, at least as far as the provision of basic human needs is concerned. The substitution of real space by virtual has emerged not only for the distribution of knowledge, but also for its acquisition through distance learning, or e-learning. Another possible relationship between real and virtual spaces for the satisfaction of basic needs is a kind of merger between the two spaces, in the sense that gratifying actions for some needs may take place simultaneously in the two spaces. The logic of physical escape via tourism may be applied to virtual space as well. Sexual life over the Internet, the so-called cybersex, refers to sex that is generated and developed through the Internet.
