ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at how the wider community can become involved in Forest School, making suggestions about links that could offer valuable volunteer support and spread the Forest School message into areas outside one's immediate setting. In order for Forest School to be successful in one's setting it will be necessary to have the full support of all partners: children, parents, staff, landowners and the wider community. Provide regular workshops for parents. Introduce them to the site, a range of activities, the risks and the rules. Ask for volunteer parents to work with you on a regular basis. Involve them in their child's learning, achievements, pride and confidence. By working in a small cluster, sharing the space, resources, planning and costs, some nurseries are able to maintain their Forest School long term. In these situations the site is allocated to each group for a period of time and that group makes the decision about how they use their time.
