The chapter considers the changing role of governors today in light of some of the key policy trends highlighted in and. Prime Global's primary focus is to examine the financial systems and controls in place to determine whether a school complies with the sample checks outlined in Annex B of the Academies Financial Handbook produced by the government. This explains why head teachers and other senior school leaders and managers use military metaphors to describe the organisation and development of schools. Ofsted has also introduced the data platform RAISEonline, which is an online digital archive comprising reports and analysis of attainment and progress levels for all schools in England. These pedagogies of surveillance constitute what Ball calls performativity', namely the requirement to spend increasing amounts of our time in making ourselves accountable, reporting on what we do rather than doing it.
