ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the changing work roles, behaviour and experiences of managers in a primary care trust (PCT). The Millford PCT study primarily involved semi-structured interviews with senior, junior and middle managers from both the provider and commissioning wings of the organization as well as with managers from the HR function. A final idiosyncrasy of the PCT case was that the data was virtually all collected through interview-based research. This system, the Lorenzo Electronic Patient Record, is a type of health documentation tool devised by the giant Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), an American multinational that provides information technology hardware as well as professional services to public and private sector organizations, including the US government. NHS Connecting for Health itself ceased to exist on 31 March, 2013, and some projects and responsibilities were taken over by the Health and Social Care Information Centre.
