ABSTRACT
Since macro-level content editing is generally not a concern for translators, this chapter will be principally concerned with those micro-level tasks which translators may be called upon to perform, namely the correction of factual, logical and mathematical errors. Normally, people writing in their own field of expertise do not make errors in field-specific concepts, though sometimes experts writing for lay audiences do not express concepts as well as they might. Therefore we see content editing overlapping with the audience-related concerns of stylistic editing. Some conceptual errors are quite subtle. Consider the sentence 'Ms. J. denies the historical fact of the massacre'. It is very easy to miss such errors if your attention is on linguistic form. Another common problem is passages where, as a result of poor writing, it is hard to see what the author is trying to say. In some editing situations, the author may not be reachable for clarification.
