ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in subsequent chapter of the book. It suggests that the world needs leaders to be courageous and act bravely in the face of the challenges they encounter in order to create not only successful, but also sustainable businesses. Lipman-Blumen, a toxic leader discussed the tendency look of the heroic leader to save people and this makes everyone vulnerable to trusting whatever the influential leadership presents to us. This chapter introduces the braver leadership coaching approach with the challenge to leaders to consider the ideas about bravery and leadership coaching framework. It evaluates the brave leadership concept in relation to familiar leadership theories, such as transformational, authentic, situational and relational leadership, suggesting that bravery is essential across these approaches for them to be morally effective. The chapter show the inside work needed as part of leader development which have a corresponding impact on the outside manifestation of the leadership role.
