ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the part of the brave coaching model that is concerned with finding balance and explores the areas that may not be in equilibrium and to raise emotional awareness. It also explores the next part of the coaching model as a mechanism by which the coach can help the leader move conceptually around the organizational "solar system" and takes a high-level view of the pulling factors or forces, both positive and negative, that are apparent there. Additionally, identifying and discussing personal needs is only part of the solution to finding balance. In order to maintain a balance four key areas that can support a strong core which includes emotional awareness, reflective pause, self-regulation and moral preparation are suggested. The chapter focuses on moral preparation and suggests that returning to leaders' brave stories as a way of reminding leaders that they are moral agents. Mindfulness, which has its emphasis present-centered and engaged thinking, is argued, promote ethical decision making.
