ABSTRACT

Materials technology is also known as resistant materials or product design. I will use

materials technology throughout this chapter but be aware that in your school this area

may have a different title. This area of design and technology covers designing and making

products in wood, metal, plastic and composite materials. Some schools might also include

work with smart materials such as shape memory alloys, although for others the cost of

these materials prohibits their use, and in some schools materials technology teaches

aspects of electronics and programming. Work in materials technology might also include

graphics, technical drawing, modelling work in card and foam (discussed in Chapter 9) and

work with electrical circuits (discussed in Chapter 5).
