ABSTRACT
On completion of your initial teacher training you will have met all the requirements for
qualified teacher status (QTS), and thus demonstrated your ability to be an effective
‘beginning’ teacher of design and technology. However, your development as a teacher does
not stop at the end of your period of initial training. In fact, aspects of your professional
development will almost certainly continue throughout your career. At this point, you are in
a good position to identify both your strengths and areas for development and to give some
thought to your career aspirations. This chapter will provide you with practical guidance to
help you to prepare for your first teaching post and to think strategically about your career.
