ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the digitization of higher education from the perspective of those who are employed by universities. This includes university academics, teachers and tutors, alongside the majority of the higher education workforce-professionals who are variously referred to as university administrators, non-faculty or support staff. While many discussions of the 'work' of higher education tend to concentrate on the labour of university academics, teachers and tutors, it is perhaps more useful to consider these issues in terms of the majority element of the higher education workforce. Most of the more mundane issues relating to professional work just apply equally to university academics. The chapter addresses the use of digital technologies within the working environment of the contemporary university. It would seem from the evidence reviewed in the chapter that digital technologies appear likely to be having a detrimental impact on those workers who are in more peripheral and more vulnerable positions.
