ABSTRACT

The super-organized individual with Asperger Syndrome (AS) may insist on everything being in its right place as a way of controlling their environment. Let them organize their workspace as they want. It is discreet ritual and preventing it may cause distress. Before the pupil arrives in school, getting them out of bed and the safety of their room to go to the noisy, confusing and stressful environment of school may be a daily battle for parents. It is likely that they will have to be reminded to do basic things every day. They may be highly 'organized' at home, with instructions displayed telling them what to do to prepare for the day: how to wash, which clothes to wear, what things to put in their schoolbag. Parents may use a visual reference like Communicate in Print or Picture Set symbols to reinforce the message.
