ABSTRACT

The pupil with Asperger Syndrome (AS) needs to know exactly what is expected of them. For high stakes examination assessments, teaching assistants should tell them to write the maximum number of words. As the pupil with AS will be very reluctant to plan their work, it will be of value to give credit for writing a plan. This will encourage them to write one and they need to do this to keep track of the task they are doing. Worksheets are often written in close type with lots of instructions. These are often overwhelming for a pupil with AS. Teaching assistants will have to focus the pupil's attention on what is required using the creative writing template. In factual essay writing, the pupil with AS will see what he/she will gain from writing by including the levels attained for completing each part.
