ABSTRACT
The mother knows the child better than anyone else. If the child is seven years old, that is the amount of time it takes to be awarded a PhD, so a mother of a seven-year-old child has an honorary PhD in the study of that child. This chapter reveals that as a parent of a child with Asperger Syndrome (AS), we would like to say that we really appreciate professionals who take the time to talk to us and learn about AS in order to inform themselves about the best way to support our children. A family with a child with AS means that there is a high probability one or both parents are on the spectrum too. Regular meetings with parents whose children are on the autism spectrum, regardless of whether they have a statement of Special Educational Need (SEN), are important and can be mutually beneficial.
