ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the use of assessment to foster student reflection for learning. It also describes ways of using different apps for providing such feedback to foster reflection that supports learning, as well as suggest some criteria for fostering self-reflection. A primary purpose for assessing students is to foster their learning of literacy practices. There are a number of different kinds of apps that a teacher can employ to provide descriptive, audience-based feedback to student's work. Another important aspect of assessment for learning is the degree and quality of student's reflection through self-assessing - their ability to summarize their learning and reflect on their own effectiveness in employing certain literacy practices mediated by uses of apps. Students can use e-portfolios for collecting their work and then reflecting on changes in that work. To foster student reflection on their work, teacher can have students review back through their work to note consistent thematic patterns in the work.
