ABSTRACT

The significant factor to ensuring tight alignment between the written and taught curriculum is to clearly communicate your expectations to teachers that lesson plans and learning experiences must be derived from this written resource. The recommendation is to begin this work with a smaller group of faculty. After you have worked with your leadership team to identify the processes needed to implement the planning cycle with your staff, you will transition to focusing on the learning intentions. At this point, you need to make sure you fully understand the nature of the learning intentions and ensure the instruction can align with essential knowledge and skills at both the content and the cognitive level. The authors' have found this tool to be beneficial as teams and teachers work collaboratively to become more familiar with such terms as learning intentions and success criteria.
