ABSTRACT

The Apply step of the Formative Assessment Leadership (FAL) cycle happens in the classroom. However, as a leader in the formative Data-Based Decision Making (DBDM) process you are not removed from this step. First, we need to work with the teaching faculty so that they understand that this is different from a traditional lesson plan-delivery approach. In this step of the FAL cycle and in the Assess step, we share several useful formative assessment strategies that can be integrated into the instructional plan. The tools and strategies we share provide a taste of the myriad possibilities available to teachers for use in their own instruction. An important part of the Apply step is built in opportunities for teachers and instructional leaders to reflect on observed changes in student interactions in the classroom and potential changes in engagement with the content, their classmates, and the teacher. Providing student's feedback is an essential component of this step in the cycle.
