ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will go over the different calculations and theories for sizing conductors using the tables in the NEC.

Example ac inverter output conductor sizing:

First, we determine the current of the inverter. The easiest way to calculate the output current is using the formula:

W = VI I = W/V

For example, if we have a 3.8kW inverter on a house then:

I = 3800W/240 = 15.8A inverter

It is best to get the inverter current from the inverter datasheet. If you are not given these data, this is how to calculate the current. Sometimes the current from the datasheet can be slightly different from the calculated current.
