ABSTRACT
In the last chapter I described paradigms of a becoming ontology (agency) and a being ontology (structure) in terms of Greek philosophy, but in this chapter I address these differently and look for entirely different sources for my discussion of these concepts. I present the rationale for two key arche typal constructs that dominate the way in which we perceive the world: namely, self and other, and agency and structure. Many of our current approaches to understanding HRD, management, and our lives and rela tionships can be seen through the lens of these archetypal constructs. They permeate how we and other social animals construe relationships, and are core to our being.
