ABSTRACT

This chapter extends the argument for the adoption of a holistic perspective of HRD that I laid out in Chapter 3. In order to set the scene I first look at different views of management and their implications for HRD. I then step sideways to look at global changes and their impact upon us, before returning to the implications for HR at the end of this chapter. There are some issues, such as trust, that reverberate throughout this and are not eas­ ily pigeonholed; similarly, and as might be expected, the big four (structure, agency, self, and other) are constantly part of this account, in the same way that they are part of humanity.
