ABSTRACT
To understand the eontemporary analysis of choice behavior in animals one must have some understanding of the behavior of scientists studying choice behavior in animals. The behavior of these scientists tends to depend on a few assumptions about science in general and about a science of behavior in particular. Unfortunately, so me of these theoretical assumptions are covert (Rozeboom, 1974). Thus, our first task is to uncover these assumptions and to state them explicitly so that they may be evaluated and contras ted with alternative assumptions.
