ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a narrative about Anna Marie Monck who worked as an Operations Manager for a large corporate business before attending Canterbury Christchurch University, England, where she received a first-class honors degree in social work in 2015. Anna considers the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland story as an analogy for her journey through social work education. For Anna, narrative and lived experiences are a learning tool and reflection becomes the seat of continuous learning and understanding as each gift unfolds in new and different ways. When she think about her journey through the social work degree she was reminded of the children's story, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Alice falls into a hole and from there on she embarks on a journey that changes her forever and that is exactly what happened during Anna time at university. Social work in the UK has a terrible reputation; known as child snatchers or do-gooders, there is little let up from the media.
