ABSTRACT
Part III of the Children Act 1989 is designed to prevent cases of child abuse occurring. Section 17(1) states: It shall be the general duty of every local authority, by providing a range and level of services appropriate to the children's needs. Section 35(1) defines a supervision order in force it shall be the duty of the supervisor to consider whether or not to apply to the court for its variation or discharge. Section 44 states the emergency protection order is appropriate where there is an emergency and immediate intervention is needed. A care order is made the local authority has a duty to receive the child into their care and keep them in their care. The local authority gains parental responsibility for the child and can determine how the parents can exercise their parental responsibility. The care order has the local authority to show threshold criteria which has met in the welfare of the child.
