ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses an outdoor toddler group led by professional childcare practitioners, such as child-minders or nursery workers. Planning helps to: ensure that all resources are brought to the site; designate different areas of the site to different activities; agree roles and responsibilities with other staff members; consider risk and ensure activities are suitable. The type of Childcare setting group might have a theme and the children would all participate in a series of activities over the course of the session. Childcare setting carousel is a type of a group that might start and end with everyone together singing songs, sharing a story or in some other communal activity. The Drop-in carousel group is one where parents accompany their children and can arrive whenever they want during an allotted time period, participating in some or all of the activities available. One of the health and safety announcements is telling them who the trained first aider is for today.
