ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at how to accommodate the youngest children in carer's plans, and using storybooks as a starting point for thematic planning. It is an activity bank, full of ideas for carers to use when planning their sessions. The following are the Practitioner's note: Children who are not very mobile can play the game if they are carried by a grown-up; If they want to do the activity in the Winter, provide craft materials such as scraps of coloured paper, fabrics, feathers and foil to stick on the crowns in place of the natural materials; If they are running the activity repeatedly, consider hiding something special in the tent or tunnel which the children have to look for carers can put it back again before the next group start. Finding the book can be part of the fun for the children, if carers hide it and give them clues about where to look for it.
