ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the four key aspects of pedagogy and how to make these aspects a practical reality. And the aspects are communication, pragmatism and practicalities are discussion and questioning. There are three elements to communication in the classroom. Some teachers encounter the reality of classroom and become disheartened by discrepancy between what they envisaged and what is actually the case in history teaching, pragmatism can often mean giving up a little bit of what makes discipline unique in order to engage and motivate your students. Discussion and questioning are at the heart of good teaching, and this is particularly true of history teaching. Discussion gives pupils the opportunity to explore ideas, to refine their thoughts and to order their thinking. Owing to the fact that history makes such cognitive demands on pupils, finding ways in which to make success more achievable is vital.
