ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how to use a layer-based workflow to composite realistic shadows created from lighting in CINEMA 4D Lite. Using CINEMA 4D layers offers greater compositing control with CINEWARE. Light is what illuminates our world. Lighting in CINEMA 4D mimics the properties of light by simulating depth through shading, casting shadows, and interacting with surface materials to produce highlights and reflections. The omni light can be changed to a directional, or spot light, in the Attributes Manager. This type of light spreads out in a cone shape similar to an actual spot light used in theater and movie productions. A spot light appears as a cone of light in the viewport with nothing outside of the cone illuminated. The spread and shape of the light can be controlled using its interactive orange handles in the viewport or modifying its properties in the Attributes Manager. All shadow options can be modified using the Shadow channel in the Attributes Manager.
