ABSTRACT

It is important to recognise the guide and the accompanying Handbook are intended for use by both IEMA Associate and NEBOSH Diploma students, the two qualifications have different syllabi, examination formats and assessment standards. Passing the IEMA Associate membership exam requires less scope and depth of knowledge from students than the NEBOSH Diploma. The key features of both IEMA online and paper-based examinations include: The exam format is 'open book' but is expressly designed not to be a 'look up' exercise, for online examinations - answers are typewritten, while paper-based examinations typically require handwritten submissions. The key features of the NEBOSH diploma examination include: The exam format is 'closed book' and require handwritten answers, the qualification is pitched at the National Qualifications Framework level 6 standard which may be considered roughly equivalent to a Bachelor's degree level assessment. The process for setting and marking NEBSOH examinations is lengthy and involves considerable efforts to standardise the approach taken by different examiners.
