ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book helps modern families to heal their dilemmas through the AFT model. This model uses a family systems theory as the home theory and additional interventions from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, communications and other family systems theories. This integrative approach allows the therapist and clients to reach their mutually agreed upon goals in a way that is unique from other existing therapy models. As the therapist becomes attuned to the family's or individual's dilemmas, he/she will be able to call upon interventions that will enable differentiation and the lowering of anxiety and emotional reactivity of the individual and the system, that in turn will enable the resolution of dilemmas. The modern family's context is changing radically, and new therapy models need to be created to fit the needs of modern family structures.
