ABSTRACT

Obviously, confl icts rarely fi t into the neat categories of family, workplace, or community, but the confl ict resolution fi eld often tries to categorize confl icts for ease of understanding and interpretation. In fact, many of the confl icts described in this chapter would fi t quite well into all three categories. This is especially true in cultures like Laos that view confl ict holistically, affecting all in a community. Regardless of what category a confl ict fi ts into, it causes a loss of face on an individual, family, and community scale, and must be dealt with effectively.
