ABSTRACT
Any discussion of cross-cultural confl ict resolution is bound to be fraught with problems, the most basic of which is “what is a culture?” It is necessary to devote some time to the topic of culture, as it is a complex concept with multiple defi nitions and approaches to research. For the purposes of understanding the different groups in Laos more completely, the following section discusses the basic characteristics of culture and how it is formed.
