ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on broader community efforts, particularly those of community-based organizations (CBOs), healthcare providers, and faith-based organizations. Promoting sexual health of youth in communities can be facilitated through the development of community coalitions. ACT (Assets Coming Together) for Youth Center of Excellence, a partnership among Cornell University, the Center for School Safety, and the University of Rochester that focuses on the promotion of positive youth development and adolescent sexual health. The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services is a resource community coalitions may use to inform their selection of evidence-based programing to promote sexual health among youth. healthcare providers also play an essential role in a community's promotion of sexual health among youth. In fact, for some youth and their families, healthcare providers, particularly physicians, are the primary source of sexual health information. school-based health centers (SBHCs) offer another means for youth to receive sexual health supports from healthcare providers.
