ABSTRACT

We humans, as we act on goals in the world, use X-ray vision, as well. Like Solid Snake, sometimes we enhance this ability to seek and find the right details with new technological tools. Gamers test hypotheses and seek to figure how the rules in a game interact. But the phenomenon can morph into something different. Players can go what I will call "mindfully meta". In the massive-multiplayer game World of Warcraft some players engage, on Internet sites, in an activity called "theory crafting", sometimes written as "theory crafting". In a game like Civilization, for instance, your avatar is not really presented on the screen. Such games as Tetris and Plants and Zombies are mini-god games because the player plays a force or god that looks down on a world to make decisions in the context of the game world as a system that needs to be built up and sustained.
