ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an overview of the systematised approach to social memory technology by drawing together basic parameters; concepts and procedures that can help mobilise groups to embark on memory work projects. One of the challenges of working on social memory technology projects is that participants often do not see the value of memory. Thus, we always have to begin such projects with an explanation of the concepts of memory and historical narrative. The collective timeline identifies common threads as well as differences and contrasts in the group's personal stories. The set of records chosen by the group as being significant reveals a great deal about its historical and cultural parameters. Mobilisation is also an educational movement, and, therefore, it is a continuous process resulting from the actions of the individuals. A memory design built into social projects can also contribute to the social challenges facing the areas of education, communication and community development.
