ABSTRACT

Strategy is the most important thing for winning and losing elections by any measure. Political marketing strategy is about how parties, candidates and governments think and plan in order to achieve their goals. Strategy is not just used to win power; Fischer's comparative study suggests that strategy was the key to ensuring effective focus in government. Davidson and Binstock note how parties and candidates have targeted seniors in the US since John F. Kennedy's campaign for presidency in 1960. In 2004 a new prime minister, Ferenc Gyurcsany, was elected and the party chose a new president, Istvan Hiller, and each worked to respond to the youth segment though both product development and communication. Niche political marketing is about strategically developing your product and communication to suit a small defined group with relatively homogenous members. In contrast, a Market-Oriented Party designs its behaviour to provide voter satisfaction to reach its goal.
