ABSTRACT

Most of the sources in this age range were still single, wrapping up their studies or planning to go back to school for a professional degree, such as an MBA. These women were making the transition from school to career during a time of major changes in Japan's economy as well as employment procedures. All of the women in this age range had career aspirations of some sort and, in order to achieve this goal, focused much of their attention on education and ideally making a swift transition into the workforce. Okano gives four analytical domains that shape these women's understandings of adulthood: employment, further education, family, and relationships and leisure. In order to ease the transition for these children back into the Japanese schooling system, the government has established a number of special schools.
