ABSTRACT

This chapter provides some closing comments to the concepts discussed in this book. The book shows how a complete corpus-based project can be carried out, including some of the technical aspects and some basic statistical analyses. It shows how we can do a corpus-based study with already-identified language features, whether doing a lexical study or searching for the use of particular grammatical patterns. More advanced corpus-driven register studies have identified co-occurring linguistic features that have emerged through corpus analyses. While researchers do rely on earlier work to identify functional categories and their associated features before a corpus investigation, when investigating the linguistic profile of a text, it is a mistake not to rely on the constellation of linguistic features.
