ABSTRACT

Many young people the transition to secondary school usually engage them in developing their organisational skills and strategies. To some extent the less complex timetable of primary school and the more nurturing context will have ensured that they generally have the appropriate equipment with them as necessary during the school week. This chapter focuses on highlighting the importance of developing these skills whilst also providing the students with some practical ideas and resources to increase their current organisational skills and levels of independence. The students are asked to use the day planning format provided in order to identify the tasks that they need to do each day, both before and after school. The facilitator can record the students' responses on the whiteboard or flipchart as appropriate and ensure that all students who want to have the opportunity to contribute their ideas, thoughts and feelings.
