ABSTRACT

This chapter begins with a brief practice example related to how social work managers must often balance financial concerns talent management. One of the most important, and often the most elusive, aspects of talent management is ensuring that there is a sufficient pipeline, or supply, of capable individuals to fill positions at your organization. The concept of total compensation involves a variety of elements included in an employee's compensation package that go beyond merely cash compensation. In addition to performance management and other administrative aspects of talent management and supervision, Kadushin and Harkness also stress the importance of educational and supportive supervision in a social work environment. According to Mathis and Jackson, effective performance measurement must include performance standards that are connected to an employee's job description.
