ABSTRACT

Chapter 3 concentrates on the male and female survivors’ narratives of how they experienced the disaster and how they survived and dealt with the immediate post-disaster situation. The main focus in this chapter is to show how the survivors felt and acted, and what decisions they made when the tsunami waves struck. This chapter is organized by where the survivors were when the tsunami hit: some had experiences whilst at sea, some were on land and some were at temples. This chapter's narratives are from interviews with Buddhist monks, nuns, male and female survivors, and their relatives.
