ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the details of analytical techniques, but to provide summaries of examples of practical and imaginative uses of secondary data for sport research purposes. Using secondary data would involve drawing on an appropriate national survey and the Population Census, which could be used to provide an approximate estimate of likely demand for basketball in the area. The Olympic Games and other major sporting contests offer data on participants and medals won, which provide an opportunity for secondary analysis to explore. Using secondary data would involve drawing on an appropriate national survey and the Population Census, which could be used to provide an approximate estimate of likely demand for basketball in the area. The existing basketball facility could be examined to see whether it is overused or underused, that is, whether demand is already being adequately met by the existing facility.
